TABLING & BRACING

Now and then, a tree can get too large or top-heavy for its own good, or have poor structure and weak unions to begin with. This can happen for a number of different reasons, but the good news is that it’s not always grounds for large-scale pruning or removal. We can install cabling and/or bracing systems to guarantee peace of mind regarding your weaker trees and ensure that your larger trees aren’t a cause for concern in the event of strong winds or a storm.

What is tree bracing?

Tree cabling involves tying the tree to either the ground or a nearby, more stable tree using heavy-duty cables, usually made of steel or synthetic fibres. These cables are either attached to the tree using bolts embedded in the tree, or wrapped around the limbs of the tree. Unlike bracing, which is aimed at preventing the movement of individual parts of the tree, cabling is generally used to prevent the tree from moving as a whole and potentially uprooting itself during a storm or windy weather.

There are two types of tree cabling:

Static cabling, which aims to more or less immobilise the branches and limbs in question using metal bolts

Dynamic cabling, which gives the tree more room to move and sway by only wrapping the cables or ropes around the tree rather than attaching it to fixed points. This type of cabling can be more beneficial to the tree’s overall health and ability to fend for itself against windy weather.

First; why would someone want their trees covered in braces and cabling?

The idea of sticking a bunch of metal cables and braces on a big beautiful tree might initially sound somewhat unattractive, but sometimes it’s your best bet for ensuring the longevity of the tree in question.

Whether it’s concern about the tree’s fundamental integrity, or you’re worried that windy weather might topple your tree, an unsteady tree poses a huge risk if it’s next to your home or building.

Tree bracing and cabling can be used to support certain parts of the tree – it may be the case that only one or a few branches are at risk of falling. The good news is that regardless of the scope of the bracing and cabling required, it won’t hurt your tree if done properly by an experienced professional.

TREE EMERGENCY WORKS

Protecting your property from unexpected damage caused by storms, high winds and other natural disasters is our top priority. Our team of experienced arborists are available 24/7 to provide emergency tree removal services with the most up-to-date equipment and techniques so that you can rest easy knowing your home or business will be secure in no time! We also offer expert pruning services for additional protection against further harm.

When is emergency tree removal necessary?

The most common emergency situations that necessitate the removal of a tree are:

  • Storm damage
  • The tree is found to have a structural defect
  • Sudden signs of internal rot or decay
  • Loss of large limbs resulting in a compromised canopy
  • Damage to Root Zone

As these are all situations that pose a risk to people or structures near the tree in question, they justify the immediate removal of said tree.

We will generally not remove a tree unless it’s absolutely necessary to do so.

FORMATIVE PRUNING

Precise Tree Services provides professional formative pruning services for properties across Melbourne. Our qualified arborists employ a wide range of techniques, such as crown reduction, thinning the canopy, and removing deadwood to shape trees into aesthetically pleasing forms with strong structures that support safety on site. Tailoring our approach to meet each client’s individual needs is key to creating healthy and beautiful long-term results.

What is formative pruning?

Off-course branches or excessive growth can quickly pose a risk to nearby structures or other trees, and sometimes it can be hard to imagine a solution aside from removal. Formative pruning is a practice implemented when working with young or immature trees to ensure they grow in a desirable direction and shape. It involves pruning and cutting back growth on the tree while it’s still young to give the tree an overall shape that it will generally maintain as it grows and matures. It’s a bit like how Japanese bonsai is done, but less extreme and for normally sized trees instead of tiny ones.

Habitat creation 2

HABITAT CREATION

Our habitat creations work can involve the installation of man-made wildlife boxes in trees, or the creation of artificial hollows. Tree hollows can take the best part of a century to develop naturally, but they’re crucial to the life cycles of countless native fauna. Similarly, our wildlife boxes seek to mimic natural habitats that only develop under very specific circumstances. Being able to create these environments on demand is a significant contributor to ongoing efforts to encourage diversity and health among our wildlife.

What is habitat creation?

Habitat creation is the practice of improving a green space to be more habitable to local wildlife. The name of the game is encouraging creatures and critters to move in, and make their home in the new space. It requires an incredibly detailed and thorough understanding of what native flora and fauna look for in a home, and the ability to recreate naturally occurring environments from scratch.

TREE TRANSPLANTING

If you’re moving and love your trees, why not take them with you? We can handle the removal, transporting, and replanting of one tree or several from start to finish without running the risk of damage or soil erosion.

Whether you’re managing a backyard or a national park, we’re happy to handle any, or all of your tree transplanting needs.

If waiting decades to have mature trees isn’t for you, then tree transplantation might be the option.

POSSUM BANDING AND MANAGEMENT

If your property has a high population of possums, that are causing damage to your garden, consider possum banding and/or isolation pruning which can minimise or eliminate possum access. It’s a solution that doesn’t harm your tree or the various animals that use it as a home but does prevent possums from climbing along certain branches – or even up the tree’s trunk. We can install possum banding on your tree quickly, efficiently, and without running the risk of damage to your trees or the wildlife.

ELM LEAF BEETLE TREATMENT

The elm leaf beetle may look harmless but it’s a significant pest that affects elm trees. Severe infestations of these beetles can cause tree defoliation, rendering the tree weak and prone to other pests and diseases. This can all happen within ONE WEEK!

High temperatures can increase the speed of the beetle’s metabolism, so now is a great time to get on top of any potentially harmful effects that the elm leaf beetle may be causing to your trees.

Company Director

My journey as an Arborist began in 2010 when I was presented with an opportunity to work in the Otway region, pruning trees to ensure clearances from power lines. Intrigued by the prospect, I made the bold decision to leave my job as a Glazier and pursue a career in arboriculture. Since then, I have never looked back.

I started my time in the industry 11 years ago, back in the UK. Only a few months after starting my Level 3 National Diploma, the diversity of the job and my love for the outdoors had completely sold me on the industry.

With a lifelong passion for working with plants, I ventured into the tree industry in October 2021 and instantly fell in love with it. Since then, I have been immersed in the world of trees and arboriculture.
